The Colonel Timothy Bigelow Monument, near the center of the Worcester Common, has been undergoing restoration. Member Kay Kingsbury has been championing this beautiful transformation.
The monument was a gift from Colonel Timothy Bigelow Lawrence, great-grandson of our namesake Patriot. It was ceremoniously dedicated April 19, 1861. It was at this same time that the Baltimore mob attacked Worcester soldiers of the famous Sixth Massachusetts Regiment who were on their way to the front at the outbreak of the Civil War.

A committee of our chapter Daughters began planning the Monument restoration project in 2000.

They engaged the services of the well-known expert in stone building and monument conservation, Ivan Myjer, to restore the Monument.

The Colonel Timothy Bigelow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution donated $45,900 worth of labor, equipment, and services to the city of Worcester for restoration of the Monument. Initial work was completed in October 2006 with final work finishing up in June 2007.

The Colonel Timothy Bigelow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution  give our heartfelt thanks to all who generously donated to the Bigelow Monument Restoration project.
